Zell am See is a great choice for families and skiers of all abilties. The car-free town centre perched on the edge of the lake has a wintry picture-postcard feel about it, with quaint cafés and restaurants alive with both locals and tourists.

The Kitzsteinhorn glacier and it’s spectacular views from the Gipfelwelt 3000 summit station are some of the highest in Salzburger Land and can be truly enjoyed whether as part of a summer or winter holiday.

The nonstop party weekend “WOW Glacier Love” marks the start of the winter season. Three mountains of groomed slopes, freeride routes, snow parks and pipes, ski adventures for the entire family to enjoy. The kids will love the action on the Schmitten Funslope, a downhill run near the Hochmaisbahn with its exciting tunnels, jumps and banked curves and a length of 1.300 metres. There’s free of charge WiFi across almost the entire ski resort together with some of the most up-to-date lifts and ski rental concepts. Enjoying the ski slopes Zell am See
Beginners will be well looked after by the local ski school, with the manageable pistes of the Areitalm, above Schuttdorf, and the slopes of the Schmittenhöhe bowl. The widest range of intermediate runs can be found on the Schmittenhöhe, including one superb 8km descent involving a breathtaking 1,200m vertical drop. Start the day early on the freshly-groomed Blue 4 and 5. Beat the crowds, head up early and perhaps take breakfast at the Breiteck Alm, then move on to Sonnenalm for great sunny sloped reds.
Advanced Power Pistes
Longer, further and steeper, the TRASS and the Black Mamba!
The TRASS requires plenty of stamina with an incline of up to 70%, a difference of 1000 m altitude and a total length of 4.150m.
The most exciting challenge for experienced downhill artists is the “Black Mamba“, a piste with a length of 1.000 metres and a gradient of up to 63%. The new “Eagle Line”, a fun piste with wave-line, small jumps and banked curves, offers even more skiing fun for all winter fans this year.
Night skiing and weekly night show
High above Zell am See on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Floodlight piste 18.30 – 21.30 at the Ebenbergalm lift, enjoy breathtaking views of the town and lake beyond.
Stunts, music and stunning light effects take to the slopes of Zell am See. The region’s skiers and snowboarders at their best, present a daredevil multimedia freestyle show with music, laser, video and fire elements. Scheduled every Wednesday from end of December until March at the base of the CityXpress. Cool LED lights on skis, snowboards and outfits create the snow acrobats spectacular light effects in the night sky.
Kitzsteinhorn Glacier
The Kitzsteinhorn glacier at 3030m and only 14km;s away invites you to enjoy a long ski season of almost ten months stretching from October through to the end of May. Unlimited freedom on wide glacier slopes, 100% snow sure, multiple freeride routes and snow parks provide a diverse ski destination.

The Zell am See-Kaprun lift pass not only includes the Kitzsteinhorn gl;acier it links you to the exciting neighbouring Glemmtal valley.

Summer
A magical trio of mountains, lake and glacier
Clear blue waters of Lake Zell reflect the surrounding mountains of Zell am See-Kaprun, stunning during the summer months. Spend long hot summer days between mountains, lake & glacier. It’s all about sport and activity!
Enjoy a hike, go for a swim, a long mountain bike or even a game of golf surrounded by stunning mountain scenery at the Zell am See Golf Club. The Zell am See-Kaprun Golf Club consists of two equally good 18-hole courses. Their names are of course “Kitzsteinhorn” and “Schmittenhöhe”. Golfers will find flat terrain, natural biotopes, ponds surrounded by reeds and fairways full of variety in park-like grounds in the shadow of the region’s two famous mountains. The stunning natural scenery of the Hohe Tauern and the Pinzgau grassy hills add further beauty. Despite the alpine location of the region, the Zell am See-Kaprun Golf Club is usually open from April until November.
The most beautiful hiking tours or multi-day hiking tours are waiting for you in the alpine Schmittenhöhe and Kitzsteinhorn mountains. There are many bike routes to be explored either by mountain bike or the new E-bike. There are 240km of cycle routes and three high alpine free ride trails covering 1500m in altitude. There is also a 2,000sqm bike park on the Maiskogel.
Ironman 70.3
Every August, Zell am See host the annual Ironman 70.3: triathlon event. 1.9 km of swimming, 90 km of cycling and 21.1 km of running through the region.
Tauern Spa
Spend a day at Austria’s most modern spa resort in the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park.
